“VETERANS OF THE 21 CENTURY”
To those who wish to help,
Four years ago my friend Mike Handy former Director of Veterans Affairs
for the City of New York approached me about starting the Southwest Asia
Veterans Association. I told him; I would talk to my veteran buddies from
Desert Storm to see if we had enough people committed to the idea to make
it work. Today thanks to Maj. Elliot Goldman, ESQ, and small donations we
have or 501/C3 charter, a bank account with North Fork Bank and office
space at the Mayors Office of Veterans Affairs (thanks to Ms. Clarice
Joynes, the current director).
What we need specifically from your agency is support and information to
launch a regional membership drive. This effort will underwrite a team of
retired military officers who have volunteered to contact and invite
corporate donors to support our organization.
Our cause is to guarantee that everyone, who serves in the Middle East,
has a formal organized voice that represents solutions to the critical
problems facing service members in the war on terror and the demands of
constant deployments.
As a not for profit, we can give scholarships to service members and their
families, legal assistance donated by legal organizations as a community
service and lending closets for frequently deployed reserve component
soldiers who cannot use the active duty support networks. Medical
counseling, referral and information repository for the long list of
maladies facing soldiers serving in the Desert, who lose medical benefits
once their tour or deployment ends. Support and formal assistance for
soldiers needing to be re-employed after extended tours. And most
importantly, letter head for all those who have committed their lives in
service to this country, fighting in the Desert.
Your sponsorship would be the first of many commitments we have requested
and hope to get in the future. Once again your assistance will be
tremendous and on behalf of SWAV, I thank you. Enclosed is the charter
presented to New York State as a not for profit organization.
Please call me if you have any questions. My home number is 201-403-6687
Thank You,
C.L. Marcus, Jr.
